It would be easy to think sports nutrition is just about protein, powders, and supplements.
When in reality, healthy natural products play a vitally important role in any professional athlete’s workout diet.
Even something as pure and natural as honey could be a fitness food to help you achieve your goals.
In the build-up to Tyson Fury’s heavyweight boxing victory over Dillian Whyte, The Gypsy King used Manuka Doctor’s genuine New Zealand honey as part of his 12 week training camp.
But why Manuka? Here’s Tyson’s nutritionist George Lockhart to explain.
“Manuka honey has anti-bacterial properties so it’s good for your system, plus it’s a low GI carb from natural sugar which makes me very happy!
“GI, or Glycemic Index, relates to the rate at which carbohydrates are broken down into glucose and are absorbed into the blood from your gut.
“That means that even a little drizzle of Manuka honey is going to give your body an energy hit – and not the type of quick release energy that gives you a comedown shortly after.
Through a series of weekly blogs from inside Fury’s training camp, George explained how he used Manuka honey with all the fighters. Both in their meals, a daily immunity tonic, and for both pre and post workout nutrition. He continued.
“Manuka honey is going to give your body a longer-burn of energy. And because it’s natural, there’s no crash or additives in your body that can come with synthetics. It’s one of the best pre workout foods I’ve discovered.”
Manuka Doctor was proud to support and supply Tyson’s training camp, where George cooked every meal for the 12 week training routine. Not just for Fury himself, but fellow boxers Joseph Parker and Tommy Fury too.
And clearly his methods work! As Fury knocked out Whyte in the sixth round, cementing his place as one of the most decorated and revered boxers of a generation.
