The number on the front of the pot represents the mg per kg of MGO (Methylglyoxal) and the related strength of Antimicrobial Activity, which is known to kill certain types of bacteria. The greater the number, the stronger the Antimicrobial Activity.
MGO in Mānuka honey is naturally made in the hive from DHA which is present in the nectar of the Manuka Bush. Within the hive DHA undergoes the Maillard reaction to naturally form MGO.
100% Genuine New Zealand Mānuka Honey. Independently tested to show it meets the New Zealand Government's definition of Mānuka honey.
Premium Monofloral Mānuka Honey with higher concentration of Mānuka pollen
Pure New Zealand Mānuka Honey has a unique taste that changes as the MGO rating increases. It isn't as sweet as most mass produced honey varieties so to help you decide on the taste and antimicrobial properties (MGO rating) that's perfect for you we've created this handy taste chart.
We are working towards a fully sustainable supply chain and have invested heavily in the land where our product is harvested. As a business we have planted more than 250,000 individual Manuka bush seedlings and will continue to create new areas of Manuka bush growth in both the North and South islands of New Zealand.
Nature has always been at the heart of the Manuka Doctor brand. As the company’s bees thrive in the clean green countryside of New Zealand, our brand is now taking sustainability to the next level.
Manuka Doctor Manuka Honey is packed in New Zealand in BPA-free plastic pots. As a business we have considered switching to glass for our Manuka Honey for some years.
However after an impact assessment, it was established that because the product is transported over 11,000 miles by sea, changing from recyclable plastic to glass would add significant weight and therefore fuel, emissions and pollutants to every shipment.
rPET POTS: Our honey packaging is made using rPET plastic from 100% recycled materials. An important advantage of using rPET for transporting our pots from New Zealand is that they are light, unbreakable and have a better environmental balance than glass.
RAW, Testing & Certification
There’s a trend in today’s Manuka Honey category for products being labelled as "raw".
Each brand that uses the term usually has different definition of what "raw" means to them.
Meaning for a buyer like you, you could see multiple conflicting "definitions" of "raw honey" on shelf. Often been made up by the producers to suit their existing practices!
For us at Manuka Doctor, we didn’t want to label or just apply the term "raw" without having a robust understanding and definition that we could attribute to it.
This led us to finding an organisation who provided independent certification and a standard that ensured customers get the best quality product.
Awarded by an American based research Institute who have assessed and certified our honey is minimally processed and contains only pure, safe bioavailable ingredients.
In addition to this RAW certification, ever jar of Manuka Doctor honey can be traced right back to the hives where it was created.
Our "hive to home" guarantee means when we screw the lid on your jar in New Zealand, nobody opens it until you do.
Before export, we test every batch to ensure it meets the strict New Zealand Government’s MPI standard. As well as a separate lab test to confirm the honey’s MGO level.
You can see the results of these tests yourself too. Simply type the unique batch code printed on the side of your jar into our online checker to see the certificates for your batch.
