Description

A daily food supplement for the maintenance and support of the immune system. Each tablet contains Vitamin C, Vitamin D and Zinc combined with Freeze Dried Manuka Honey & Ginger Root Extract.

The Manuka honey is sourced from our very own Manuka Doctor hives nestled in the luscious green mountains of New Zealand. The honey is freeze dried into powder form and added to our formula which is lovingly made in the UK to the very highest standard. The MGO (methylglyoxal) level in Manuka Honey is derived from DHA (dihydroxyacetone) which is naturally present in the nectar of the Manuka Bush.

Why it works

Keep your immune system in tip-top condition. Find out how the ingredients in Manuka Plus Immunity Effervescents can help:

Manuka Honey (MGO 300)
This high-strength honey – made by bees collecting nectar from New Zealand Manuka bushes – contains the active ingredient methylglyoxal (MGO), which has an antimicrobial [1] and also anti-bacterial effect on the body, according to a 2018 study by Ulster University [2]. Our Manuka honey is harvested from Manuka Doctor hives high in the New Zealand mountains, and then freeze-dried into powder.

Vitamin C
According to the European Commission, this nutrient is important for normal immune system function in the general population [3]. According to the USA’s renowned Linus Pauling Institute, vitamin C is needed not only to produce the immune system’s front-line fighters, white blood cells, but it also stimulates their activity [4].

Vitamin C is found in fruit and vegetables, in particular citrus fruits, tomatoes, potatoes, melon, berries, kiwi fruit and green leafy vegetables [5].

Zinc
Just like vitamin C, this mineral is needed for normal immune system function [6]. A 2008 study by Wayne State University, USA reported that zinc is critical for the normal development and function of immune cells, including certain types of white blood cell called neutrophils and natural killer cells. An enzyme that helps gear up T-cells, another type of white blood cell, is also needed by zinc [7].

Foods rich in this mineral include oysters, beef, seafood, pork, pulses, nuts and seeds, dairy food and wholegrains [8].

Vitamin D
In England, the NHS recommends everybody take a vitamin D supplement daily to avoid deficiencies caused by a lack of sunlight [9].

According to the European Commission [10], Vitamin D contributes to normal immune system function, and has been the subject of lots of newspaper headlines recently about its immune system benefits.

In addition, the NHS recommend that you take a daily supplement if you:
Are not often outdoors – for example, if you're frail or housebound
Are in an institution like a care home
Usually wear clothes that cover up most of your skin when outdoors
If you have dark skin

Is Vitamin D even more important at the current time?
Science is still ongoing into this area. But according to a study in the renowned scientific journal PLUS One, initial findings showed that more research is needed into the potential link to vitamin D supplementation in reducing the risk for SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection and COVID-19 disease [11].

How much vitamin D do I need?
Adult need a minimum of 10 micrograms of vitamin D a day. This includes pregnant and breastfeeding women, and people at risk of vitamin D deficiency.

A microgram is 1,000 times smaller than a milligram (mg). The word microgram is sometimes written with the Greek symbol μ followed by the letter g (μg).

Ginger root extract
This root has been used for centuries for a range of problems, including coughs, colds, high blood pressure and nausea. Indeed, a 2012 Indian study reported that ginger has an anti-bacterial effect [12], while different compounds in ginger, including its active ingredient, gingerol, may have anti-microbial properties – so can fight viruses and fungi too – according to a study published in 2014 by Saudi Arabia’s Qassim University [13].
