A daily food supplement for the maintenance and support of the immune system. Each tablet contains Vitamin C, Zinc & Selenium combined with Propolis Extract, Freeze Dried Mānuka Honey & Ginger Root Extract.

The Mānuka honey is sourced from our very own Manuka Doctor hives nestled in the luscious green mountains of New Zealand. The honey is freeze dried into powder form and added to our formula which is lovingly made in the UK to the very highest standard. The MGO (methylglyoxal) level in Mānuka Honey is derived from DHA (dihydroxyacetone) which is naturally present in the nectar of the Mānuka Bush.

Keep your immune system in tip-top condition. Find out how the ingredients in Manuka Plus The Bee’s Sneeze can help:

Mañuka honey (MGO 300)

This high-strength honey – made by bees collecting nectar from New Zealand Mañuka bushes – contains the active ingredient methylglyoxal (MGO), which has an antimicrobial [1] and also anti-bacterial effect on the body, according to a 2018 study by Ulster University. [2] Our Mañuka honey is harvested from Manuka Doctor hives high in the New Zealand mountains, and then freeze-dried into powder.

Vitamin C

According to the European Commission, this nutrient is important for normal immune system function in the general population. [3] According to the USA’s renowned Linus Pauling Institute, vitamin C is needed not only to produce the immune system’s front-line fighters, white blood cells, but it also stimulates their activity. [4]

Vitamin C is found in fruit and vegetables, in particular citrus fruits, tomatoes, potatoes, melon, berries, kiwi fruit and green leafy vegetables. [5]

Zinc

Just like vitamin C, this mineral is needed for normal immune system function. [6] A 2008 study by Wayne State University, USA reported that zinc is critical for the normal development and function of immune cells, including certain types of white blood cell called neutrophils and natural killer cells. An enzyme that helps gear up T-cells, another type of white blood cell, is also needed by zinc. [7]

Foods rich in this mineral include oysters, beef, seafood, pork, pulses, nuts and seeds, dairy food and wholegrains. [8]

Selenium

This trace mineral is another nutrient essential for immune system function, according to the European Commission. [9]

An optimum selenium balance in the body leads to an improvement in the way the immune system responds, according to a 2008 study by the University of Hawaii, USA. [10] A later review, published in 2013 from the same establishment, found that giving older people selenium supplements increased their percentage of T-cells by more than 50% after six months. [11]

Good sources of selenium include Brazil nuts, halibut, tuna, liver and sunflower seeds. [12]

Ginger root extract

This root has been used for centuries for a range of problems, including coughs, colds, high blood pressure and nausea. Indeed, a 2012 Indian study reported that ginger has an anti-bacterial effect, [13] while different compounds in ginger, including its active ingredient, gingerol, may have anti-microbial properties – so can fight viruses and fungi too – according to a study published in 2014 by Saudi Arabia’s Qassim University. [14]

Propolis

Manuka Plus The Bee’s Sneeze also contains propolis, a type of glue made by bees for their hives – hence the nickname ‘bee’s glue’. It’s been shown that propolis, which contains important plant chemicals called flavonoids, has immune-boosting properties: a 2019 Saudi Arabian analysis reported that the presence of propolis can trigger higher concentrations of immune cells, and support the activity of white blood cells. However, the researchers said that more studies were needed. [15]

+ antioxidant activity

Vitamin C, zinc, selenium, ginger and the flavonoids in propolis bolster the immune system in another way too: they’re all antioxidants, so help to protect cells from damage by free radicals [16] – unstable molecules that can damage cells, including cell membranes, DNA and enzymes. [17] This work supports the immune system to do its job properly, according to a 2015 review by Iran’s Nickan Research Institute. [18]
