“Once you’ve tried this tip – you won’t go back”

“When I’m hitting the gym, people often ask me for some quick advice. Usually it’s ‘Bro, what are you taking?’

And my answer is always the same – nothing man! I am not a fan of potions and supplements. They’re usually too full of artificial additives and crap your body doesn’t need.

You’ve got to think about it longer term and start eating right early. I don’t mean go crazy right at the start. It’s better to follow 10% of my advice 100% of the time than do two full on days then eat junk the rest of the week!

Here’s three simple and easy tips for better training which form the core of what we’re doing in this current camp with Tyson and the team.

1. Get your body in a routine

In this camp, me, Tyson, Joe and the guys wake up at 6am every day. Luckily there’s some beautiful sunrises in Morcombe so I’m happy! But this is going to get your body used to a routine and what you’re about to put it through. Wake up at the same time, eat at the same times, and (if you can) work out at the same time. After a short while you will start to feel amazing right before you train.

2. Drink more water

This is especially true if you’re right at the start of a programme as the water will help flush out toxins and reset your digestive system. It’ll stop you being hungry too. I know that if a fighter is just a few percentage points dehydrated, it seriously affects performance. I could write about water all day, you simply have to do it.

3. The right fuel at the right time

I’m always fine tuning our meals then checking how my fighter feels after training. If you feel tired after you’ve eaten, then you’re eating wrong. It’s not all about protein. You need a balance. One of my secret tips is to put a spoonful of Manuka honey in your mouth right before you train. Because it’s slow-release energy, the receptors in your tongue are sending signals to your brain that you’re getting a carb load which gets your body ready to fire. Just like those pre-workout supplements – this is the same theory, but a LOT more natural, good for you, and it tastes better.
