Don't let Norovirus ruin your Winter health

Norovirus, also called the "winter vomiting bug", is a stomach bug that causes vomiting and diarrhoea. It can spread very easily and be very unpleasant but usually goes away in about two days. Washing your hands frequently with soap and water is the best way to stop it spreading.(1)

“Our hands can transmit all sorts of germs, not just coronavirus, so hand sanitising and hand washing is a good habit to practice forever.”

“Try and look for a product that has anti-bacterial and anti-viral benefits, as this means it will have been lab tested to kill up to 99.9 per cent of bacteria. Normally this will be written on the packaging for you to easily see.” Dr Hilary Jones

Hand hygiene is one of the most important steps to protect yourself and others from illnesses caused by germs. Manuka Doctor’s highly effective Antibacterial Hand Wash and Hand Cream feature Manuka honey which keeps hands soft and moisturised whilst also having the ability to ‘Kill’ 99.9% of bacteria’, confirmed through external laboratory testing.

If you are unlucky enough to catch a stomach virus this Autumn, you can usually treat yourself at home. The most important thing is to rest and have lots of fluids to avoid dehydration.(1) After two or three days, you could try taking a probiotic supplement to restore balance to your stomach. Friendly bacteria, also known as probiotics, can boost the numbers and type of ‘good’ bacteria in your intestine. A healthy microbiome has been shown to support the immune system, improve nutrient absorption and improve digestive health, easing diarrhoea and certain symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, like inflammation. (2)

The Manuka Doctor Tummy Bee Calm supplement contains a range of ingredients specially designed to aid digestive health, including Lactobacillus acidophilus, a type of friendly bacteria that can help restore the natural balance of microflora in the gut (3); Turmeric, a natural anti-inflammatory that has also been shown to support the friendly bacteria in your gut by increasing the numbers of healthy bacteria known as our microbiota.(4)

Calcium, which is needed for the normal function of digestive enzymes (5); Ginger, a traditional herbal remedy that has been used for thousands of years to treat a range of ailments including digestive problems such as stomach aches and nausea.(6)

As well as high quality nutrients, all our supplements contain high strength (MGO 300) Manuka Honey sourced from Manuka Doctor hives in New Zealand and freeze-dried into powder. Our Manuka Honey contains the active ingredient methylglyoxal (MGO), derived from dihydroxyacetone (DHA) which is naturally present in the nectar of the Manuka Bush. The MGO that is present in our Manuka Honey is widely known for its special antimicrobial activity to fight against pathogenic bacteria (7), giving all our supplements that extra wellbeing ingredient.
