Keep skin healthy and blemish free with this food supplement. Made with Zinc, Burdock Root, Freeze Dried Manuka Honey Powder, Propolis Extract and Yellow Dock Root Extract.

The Mānuka honey is sourced from our very own Manuka Doctor hives nestled in the luscious green mountains of New Zealand. The honey is freeze dried into powder form and added to our formula which is lovingly made in the UK to the very highest standard. The MGO (methylglyoxal) level in Mānuka Honey is derived from DHA (dihydroxyacetone) which is naturally present in the nectar of the Mānuka Bush.

Manuka Plus Blemish Bee-Free has been designed to support skin with blemishes or troublesome spots. Read on for our guide to find out how the ingredients can help soothe your skin.

Mañuka honey (MGO 300)

This high-strength honey – made by bees collecting nectar from New Zealand Mañuka bushes – contains the active ingredient methylglyoxal (MGO), which has an antimicrobial [1] and also anti-bacterial effect on the body, according to a 2018 study by Ulster University. [2] Our Mañuka honey is harvested from Manuka Doctor hives high in the New Zealand mountains, and then freeze-dried into powder.

In a 2009 German and New Zealand study, researchers suggested honey could speed up the healing process in skin because: [3]
• honey stimulates the inflammatory response in the body, leading to the regeneration of skin cells and connective tissues
• the pH level of honey is very low, which reduces infection

Zinc

This mineral – found in oysters, red meat, poultry, beans and nuts [4] – is needed for maintaining normal skin, according to the European Commission. In addition, it protects our skin cells from damage from free radicals, and is needed for cell division – essential for growth, development and repair of skin tissue. [5]

A 2014 review in Dermatology Research and Practice found that zinc has an anti-inflammatory effect on skin, so can support skin prone to acne, rosacea and eczema. [6]

Burdock

Traditionally, the burdock plant, Arctium lappa, was used in Chinese and Amish medicine to soothe burns and minor skin conditions. And scientists are now investigating the plant’s natural effects: according to a 2013 review by Serbian researchers, burdock may have anti-inflammatory effects, and can stimulate the repair of collagen and other connective tissue. [7]

Another study, published in 2010 in Inflammopharmacology, reported that burdock may promote blood flow to the skin. [8]

Propolis

Heard of propolis? It’s a type of ‘bee glue’ which bees produce to coat the hive, and was traditionally used for its medicinal properties, for example to speed up healing of wounds. Now, modern medicine is interested in propolis too: a 2015 study by Egyptian researchers reported that it has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. Researchers found that a solution containing propolis extract improved the appearance of acne. [9]

Propolis is also rich in flavonoids, beneficial natural plant compounds thought to behave as antioxidants in the body, helping to fight the damaging effects of free radicals on skin cells. [10]
