A daily food supplement containing essential vitamins and minerals to help maintain hair, skin and nails combined with Freeze Dried Manuka Honey, Royal Jelly Extract and B Vitamins.

The Mānuka honey is sourced from our very own Manuka Doctor hives nestled in the luscious green mountains of New Zealand. The honey is freeze dried into powder form and added to our formula which is lovingly made in the UK to the very highest standard. The MGO (methylglyoxal) level in Mānuka Honey is derived from DHA (dihydroxyacetone) which is naturally present in the nectar of the Mānuka Bush.

After strong, healthy nails, hair and skin? Manuka Plus Bee’s For Your Bonnet contains useful ingredients that can give it some support. Here’s how it can help.

Mañuka honey (MGO 300)

This high-strength honey – made by bees collecting nectar from New Zealand Mañuka bushes – contains the active ingredient methylglyoxal (MGO), which has an antimicrobial [1] and also anti-bacterial effect on the body, according to a 2018 study by Ulster University. [2] Our Mañuka honey is harvested from Manuka Doctor hives high in the New Zealand mountains, and then freeze-dried into powder.

Zinc

This mineral is well-known for its role in the immune system, but it’s just as important for your skin, hair and nails, according to the European Commission. [3]

Zinc plays an important role in the breakdown of protein, says the European Food Safety Authority. This is needed for: [4]
• keratin – the protein that makes up hair, skin and nails
• collagen, the protein found in skin

It helps in other ways, too. Zinc works to protect cells from oxidative stress [5] – which means it curbs the effects of damage from free radicals, for example from pollution and smoking. Zinc can also reduce inflammation, and help our bodies repair wear and tear on our DNA. [6] Zinc is found in oysters, meat, pulses, nuts and seeds. [7]

Biotin

The European Commission says that biotin, sometimes also called vitamin B7, is needed to help maintain skin, hair and also your mucous membranes, like the inside of your nose. [8]

Researchers are still investigating how biotin affects health, but one theory about its role is that it’s key for the body’s metabolism of fat and protein, essential for nourished skin. [9] Biotin is found in a range of foods including eggs, meat, fish, nuts and seeds. [10]

Selenium

This essential trace mineral helps support hair and nail health, according to the European Food Safety Authority. It also acts as an antioxidant, protecting skin cells from being damaged by oxidative stress, for example from sunlight’s UV rays. [11]

A 2010 study by the US’ National Institutes of Health found that selenium is needed for the growth and development of healthy skin cells. [12]

Good food sources of selenium are Brazil nuts – but no more than one or two nuts a day to avoid taking in too much selenium [13] – prawns, meat and wholegrains. [14]

Riboflavin, or vitamin B2

The B-vitamin riboflavin is found in a range of foods including eggs, lean meat, green vegetables, wholegrains and fortified breakfast cereals, [15] and, according to the European Safety Authority, it’s needed for your skin and mucous membranes, for example the inside of your nose and mouth. [16]

In 2019, researchers at Louisiana State University found that riboflavin helps produce red blood cells and transport oxygen to cells around the body, including to skin, hair and nail cells. It’s also involved in maintaining optimum collagen levels in skin. [17]

Royal Jelly

Produced by worker bees to feed their queen and her young, royal jelly may benefit our skin, too: it has anti-inflammatory effects, helped tissue repair in a laboratory setting and may stimulate collagen production, too, according to a 2010 Korean study. [18]
