Description

A daily food supplement for the maintenance of bones, cartilage and connective tissue. Made with Vitamin C, Manganese, Glucosamine, Chondroitin, Bee Pollen, Turmeric and Freeze Dried Manuka Honey.

The Mānuka honey is sourced from our very own Manuka Doctor hives nestled in the luscious green mountains of New Zealand. The honey is freeze dried into powder form and added to our formula which is lovingly made in the UK to the very highest standard. The MGO (methylglyoxal) level in Mānuka Honey is derived from DHA (dihydroxyacetone) which is naturally present in the nectar of the Mānuka Bush.

Why it works

We all want healthy bones and joints, which is where Manuka Plus Bee-Flex comes in. Read on to find out how its ingredients can help you:

Mañuka honey (MGO 300)

This high-strength honey – made by bees collecting nectar from New Zealand Mañuka bushes – contains the active ingredient methylglyoxal (MGO), which has an antimicrobial [1] and also anti-bacterial effect on the body, according to a 2018 study by Ulster University. [2] Our Mañuka honey is harvested from Manuka Doctor hives high in the New Zealand mountains, and then freeze-dried into powder.

Glucosamine and chrondoitin

These two supplements, found naturally in the body in cartilage, have been shown to curb the breakdown of cartilage and stimulate its repair, according to a 2011 German study. [3] A 2018 review of studies, published in Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, reported that glucosamine may ease stiffness while chondroitin could soothe pain in people with osteoarthritis. [4] However, there have been some conflicting results, and they’re not currently recommended by NICE guidelines. [5]

Vitamin C

Manuka Plus Bee-Flex contains your daily requirement of vitamin C, found in many fruit and vegetables, including peppers, citrus fruits, broccoli and berries. [6]

This nutrient has a critical role when it comes to our joints and bones. According to the European Food Safety Authority, vitamin C is needed to activate the work of enzymes making collagen – a protein in our bodies which binds cells together to provide structure and strength, and is found in skin, blood vessels, bones, gums, tendons and cartilage. [7]

Manganese

This supplement also contains manganese – an important trace mineral needed for the normal development of your bones and other connective tissue in your body, like cartilage, blood and tendons. As with vitamin C, manganese is key to activating certain enzymes involved in bone and connective tissue formation, growth and repair. [8]

Manganese is found in shellfish, nuts, seeds, wholegrains, pulses, spinach and tea. [9]

Turmeric

This kitchen spice is also a herb used in Indian and Ayurvedic medicine for digestion, aches and pains, [10] and for its anti-inflammatory effects. [11]

Nowadays, it’s been shown that turmeric may indeed curb inflammation, thanks to its active ingredient – a natural plant chemical called curcumin. It works by curbing enzymes and other proteins that trigger inflammation in the body, according to a 2013 study by Korean researchers. [12] As a result, it’s thought curcumin may help reduce wear and tear on joints and cartilage: a 2016 study in Journal of Medicinal Food found that curcumin may help ease joint stiffness in people with arthritis.
