Manuka Honey Lozenges: introducing our lozenge line up

Manuka Honey Lozenges

Traditional honey lozenges or throat sweets have been around for many years to help sooth a sore throat or a cough.

The main difference between lozenges you can buy in the pharmacy and the ones from Manuka Doctor is that we only use genuine Manuka honey in our versions.

A scientific study from 2004 showed that chewing or sucking a Manuka honey "sweet" helped improve oral health by reducing plaque, and gum-bleeding. With the researchers suggesting there may be a potential therapeutic role for manuka honey confectionery in the treatment of gingivitis and periodontal disease1.

OUR RANGE

The Eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed that we now have three Manuka Honey lozenges in our range. But what’s the difference? And which one should you buy? Read on for more.

Manuka Middles

These are our flagship lozenges, made with 300 MGO grade Manuka honey. The reason we call them "Middles" is because the centre contains liquid Manuka honey. Meaning that when you’ve had it in your mouth for a while, the hard outer shell cracks and the liquid centre is revealed.

Our Manuka Middles are also formulated with zinc which helps support the immune system.

They’re available in 100g bags and are Honey & Lemon flavour.

Manuka Nuggets

The newest addition to our lozenge range. Nuggets are still formulated with Manuka honey, but it is added during the manufacturing process. So rather than a liquid centre, Nuggets are more like a Manuka honey boiled sweet.

Our Nuggets come in 120g bags. Unlike Manuka Middles, they don’t contain zinc, and are made with 100 MGO Manuka honey instead of 300 MGO.

Nuggets come in two different flavours too. Original (which you might have guessed tastes of honey!) and honey and lemon.

Experts agree:

One of our expert GPs, Dr Roger Henderson is a fan of our lozenge range, commenting:

"Manuka honey has long been used to soothe sore throats and zinc helps support the immune system."
